Suicidal Ideation

According to the NIH, Suicide is a major public health crisis and a leading cause of death in the United States.

In 2016, nearly 45,000 Americans age 10 or older died by suicide and suicide is the 10th leading cause of death and is one of just three leading causes that are on the rise according to the CDC.

In an article recently published by the American Journal of Psychiatry, Samuel Wilkinson & Colleagues examined the effect of Anesthetic Infusions in reducing Suicidal ideations. A meta-analysis (a statistical analysis that combines the result of multiple scientific studies) was performed and it was found that a SINGLE intravenous infusion of Ketamine at doses similar to those used to treat Major Depression, led to a rapid decrease in suicidal ideations within a day. 55% who received infusions no longer had suicidal thoughts versus the 20% who continued with thoughts who received the placebo. This reduction in suicidal thoughts lasted at least 7 days.

How Can We Help?

Anesthetic Infusions are widely known for helping people suffering from depression syndromes. Infusions can also provide rapid relief from suicidal thoughts and can allow one to start thinking about other alternatives. It can also allow time for other psychiatric medications to work; as some take as long as 6-8 weeks to take effect.  With our multidisciplinary approach at Serenity Health- we are with you every step of the way and will work with your referring provider in getting you the relief that you deserve.
